One of my fondest memories, from very young: We'd make popcorn and watch the Sound of Music every year. It's still my favorite movie. It was one of the few times that I was included with my older siblings, that I felt part of them.

Concrete Reasons for Being a JW (or member of any religion)
by Mrs. Witness inhere is a question i've been wanting to ask hubby: "why do you want to be a jw?
" and i don't want ethereal answers like "they have the truth" "everlasting life" and other such nonsensical ramblings.
i am not a member of any organized religion and i don't see the appeal.. can anyone answer the question with a concrete reason?.

Some people are only happy if they're pushing themselves, 'sacrificing all', if you will. We have workmates like this, that try their darndest to appear to be doing more than everyone else, although they are usually less productive. Praying at home and just being good people won't satisfiy their need to excel and be recognized.
I think the biggest attraction to jws is that those who are the 'strongest, spiritually' are the most respected, but in real life, they are idiots and buffoons. At the KH they stand out, whereas everywhere else, they're just dorks.
My parents are like this. They couldn't possibly make friends with neighbors and be equals, they have to be better than others. They have to be the parents, hence they make jw friends who are my age.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself
by GoddessRachel inhello.. my parents converted to jehovah's witnesses when they were pretty much newlyweds and raised their children as such.
i was 100% in it until a series of events happened to me as a young adult that ultimately led to my deciding it's simply not worth it.
i haven't had a relationship that could pass for normal with my jw family ever since.

Should I DA myself?
by OMG! Now What? ini'm new here and am hoping to get some support and become normal again.
i'm going to tell my story below, sorry in advance for how long it is, but i've really gotta get a grip on who i am now and what i need to do.
since before my baptism and for four years, my children and i attended every meeting.

P.S. you ARE normal. Out of the 'older men of the congregation' you alone, a 'lowly feeble woman' (girls rule!) turned that pedophile SOB in to authorities!

Hi. Glad you're here. I have, and I know others here have, been through what you describe. Your experience is much like how my husband and I faded: You're right, you only matter if you have a husband, and if your husband wants to be in the boy's club-'reaching out to be used'- and my husband definitely didn't want to be used; glad to help others, sure, but, you get the picture.
Then when we hadn't gone for 9 MONTHS, 1 elder popped in to ask my husband a) what sins have you committed and b) what have we done to hurt your feelings, because those are the only reasons that people quit attending. That was about 2.5 years ago, we sent our DA letter just a few months ago, it was cleansing and liberating and it told THEM that we aren't weak or stupid, that we were angry and disgusted about how they behave and about how they worship humans, and that we would never participate again.
This site ended my confusion, saved me. Stick around!!

MINCAN needs some LOVE and SUPPORT
by AWAKE&WATCHING inmincan has relatives visiting this week-end.
he is happy to see them but knows the problems associated with their visit will be hard to deal with.
you see, these relatives don't understand how difficult it is to come out of the cult and move on.
